إنماز الشعر بكونه عاطفة، وخيال، وفكرة مستوحاة من واقع الحياة اليومية للشاعر، فما يستوحيه الشاعر من موضوعات شعرية في غرض المديح والهجاء والرثاء والفخر، لابد أن ينضوي تحتها قيم ومبادئ يسعي الأديب إلى نشرها في المجتمع، فالقارئ المتتبع للمنجز الشعري العربي يجد ان الذاتية موجودة، والموضوعية ايضاً، فقضية الالتزام- على الرغم من كون المصطلح نتاج فكر غربي- في الشعر ليست بالقضية الطارئة، فصوت الشاعر الجاهلي كان مداويا في الدفاع عن قبيلته ومبادئها، ثم تمكن الشاعر الإسلامي من الحث على تقديس الإسلام وتعاليمه، وانقسم الشعراء الأمويون إلي أحزاب كل يلتزم بحزبه يدافع عن مبادئه وآرائه، وفي العصر العباسي عصر التشابك الفكري والحضاري وتلاقح القيم والمبادئ، والتهالك علي الثروة واللذائذ الدنيوية، كان لابد من أن ينبري شعراء يدافعون عن رؤاهم وتطلعاتهم وثقافتهم وكان ابن الرومي احد هؤلاء الشعراء الذين وعوا ما حل بالمجتمع من تهتك وطبقية مجتمعية راح ضحيتها فئة لم تستشعر بالراحة في حياتها وان ابن الرومي كان أحد هؤلاء المنسيين على الرغم من العبقرية الفذة التي شهد بها معظم النقاد، لذا وجدنا أن دراسة شعره في ضوء (الالتزام) سيكشف لنا براعة هذا الشعر وحرصه في الكشف عن بعض القضايا الدينية والاجتماعية وأنقسم البحث على مطلبين: مطلب نظري تطرقنا فيه إلى مفهوم الالتزام لغة واصطلاحا، ثم مطلب تطبيقي تناولنا فيه الالتزام الديني والالتزام الاجتماعي، ثم خاتمة بأهم الاستنتاجات ولائحة المصادر والمراجع.
