|a في هذا المقال إجابة عن الإشكاليات الآتية: هل يجب أن يتوافق المنهج والمزاج الثقافي والحضاري؟ - هل ينبغي أن بتناغم السياسي والفكري والعلمي؟ - هل يجب أن يراعي ميزان الأصالة والمعاصرة؟ لمناقشة هذه الإشكاليات يطرق عبد الله العروي موضوعات العرب والأصالة ومعرفة الذات والوعي بها وممارسة القطيعة في المجتمعات العربية ليبين الطبيعي والمفروض على المجتمع وعلاقات الواقع والواجب ليستخلص فكرة التأقلم والتسويغ جمعا بين الأصالة والمعاصرة بمنطق التناسب والتناغم والانسجام، والرؤية الكلية والشمولية بين السياسي والاقتصادي والمعرفي.
