يهدف هذا البحث إلى تتبع شعر البطولة عند ابن حيوس، ويتكون من مقدمة، وتمهيد، وخمسة مباحث، يعقبهما نتائج البحث التي توصل إليها الباحث. وقد تطرق البحث في التمهيد إلى معنى البطولة بين اللغة والاصطلاح، ثم الحديث عن الشاعر وسيرته. ثم بين في المبحث الأول الأبعاد المضمونية للبطولة المادية (الحربية) في شعر ابن حيوس، فذكر الخيل، والسيف بصورة كافة . وجاء المبحث الثاني مشتملاً على الأبعاد المضمونية للبطولة المعنوية عند ابن حيوس، فذكر صورة البطل الشجاع، صورة البطل الكريم الجواد، صورة البطل البليغ الحكيم، صورة البطل الحليم الفطن. وجاء المبحث الثالث خاصاً بالتشكيل اللغوي لشعر البطولة عند ابن حيوس، ودرس محورين رئيسين، هما: المعجم الشعري، المستوى التركيبي. وكان المبحث الرابع خاصاً بالتشكيل التصويري للبطولة عند ابن حيوس، ورصد عناصر التصوير مثل: الطبيعة، والإنسان، والحيوان، ثم أنماطه. أما المبحث الخامس فيتعلق بالتشكيل الإيقاعي للبطولة عند ابن حيوس، ورصد الإيقاع الثابت بما يتضمنه من وزن وقافية، والإيقاع المتغير، بما يتضمنه من تكرير، وردّ العجز على الصدر، التقفيات الداخلية.
