المستخلص: This article aims at deducing the similarities of Mahmoud Darouich ‘s poem “the flute cried” in terms of style to that of John Cohen, since the language of poetry is more stylized than the ordinary one. The language of poetry consists of imagery and connotation. It is an allegorical language depending on semantic and linguistic displacement as has been named by' Cohen “Substitutive and contextual displacement". The contextual study was concerned with both levels the phonemic and synthetical in order to find out the nature of the text and its rules from one side and the disparity signification from the other one, But the substitutive displacement focuses on one level among those of the allegorical similarities in the poem which is “similitude" as a consequence of the dominant metaphor on the text. so that the levels of the poem cooperate all together to fortify its form and content
