This study tackled the novel "Autumn of Innocence" by Lebanese novelist Abbas Beydoun, through the controversy between crime and punishment. The study measured the representations of the crime between the possibility of becoming and the possibility of permanence. The crime was presented as a deficiency backed up with the tales of the town community. Such a representation of crime swings from becoming based On negation and permanence based on the conflict of interpretations. As for the punishment, the study sought its hesitancies between the individual and the collective, where the individual is formed •through the collision between the executioner and the victim, and takes from the body a field to reshape the physical according to the social and psychological perspective; while the collective is formed by resorting to the dramatization of punishment so as to terrify the town community. Thus, punishment shifts from being a representation achieved on the individual into a representation achieved on the collective, and its ways shift from lashing the individual ego into lashing the collective ego.
