This contribution analyzes the versatile relationship between architecture and poetry in the Alhambra, Granada, for its palaces can be seen as a construction interwoven by poetic diwan-gardens where metaphors are topographically displayed characterizing the different spaces with royal, astral, nuptial and paradisiac overtones. Taking into consideration the double perspective, both semantic and visual, with which the poems act and regulate the perception of the palace, I will focus on the main poetic axes of Comares and Leones and on the elegiac rhetoric of the poems inscribed in the Rauda, the garden-cemetery of the Nasrid dynasty. |
