المستخلص: This study aims to suggest and evaluate of using an appropriate wastewater collection management system for Al-Zaatari Syrian refugees camp in Jordan. Al-Zaatari Refugee Camp lies in the middle of a desert in Northern Jordan, just 15 miles east of the Syrian Border. This camp was referred by several studies done by UNHCR to be suffering from bad environmental and health conditions owing to insufficient and bad wastewater management system. In addition, this camp lies above Al-Zaatari ground water basin. Therefore, in this study several field visits were carried out to fix the most important points that can be adopted to improve the wastewater collection in Al-Zaatari camp. The first challenge of this study was finding a new approach for the collection of wastewater generated from unplanned urban community. Furthermore, finding a low cost collection system management is preferred point according to the economical situation. Two alternatives systems were chosen which are septic tank method and the gravity wastewater system. The social and economic properties of the camp dwellers as well as the absence of regulated household wastewater management also were an important factor that affects the wastewater collection in this camp. The results of soil investigation showed that the top soil consists of brownish cream silty clayey marl with sand and gravels, this layer extend to depths ranging from 2.00 to 5.00 meters below ground surface. The management study revealed that it can be used septic tank system efficiently and in a low cost manner in this camp. The total cost of septic tank was lower that the gravity system by 75%. Septic tank system is a simple and fast system as well as this system can be developed to gravity system if this alternative has been executed.
