This study highlights Qādī ‘Abdal-Jabbar Al-Hamadhani's philosophical principles and their applications in the educational process. An analytical approach has been adopted in this study. Views expressed by ‘Abdal-Jabbar in seven books written by him have been studied. The study highlights the following aspects of his educational ideas: 1. Qādī ‘Abdal-Jabbar’s approach to the knowledge of Allah (God) as a mental construct has been elaborated. He believes that knowing Allah (God) can be achieved only through mind and its processes of reasoning. The paper shows its relevance to education as explained by him. 2. Qādī ‘Abdal-Jabbar emphasizes a variety of teaching methods like repetition, trial- and- error, self-learning and cooperative learning. 3. The writer, in the end, recommends carrying out studies of the educational thought of Muslim scholars through different ages as he feels that these will yield rich resource in educational insights relevant to our time. |
