المستخلص: Text and Discourse have recently become vital aspects of linguistic phenomena examined by contemporary Text linguists and Discourse Analysts given its titillating informative and communicative value. Pragmatic and functional linguistic elements are considered more pronounced in text and discourse than any other linguistic forms. This paper however seeks to critically study public propagative spoken discourse of Shaykh ‘Abd al-Hamīd Kishk titled: “what did the Muslims gain from Secularism” with an intent to reveal the discourse structural elements employed by the Shaykh aimed at achieving intended discourse purposes. The paper also essays to display Shaykh’s discourse style and the manner in which he textualizes his viewpoints on issues affecting Islamic world. It attempts to highlight the basic structural elements of the discourse and its distinctive textual features, drawing insights from modern pragmatic, sociolinguistic, and critical discourse analytic (CDA) frameworks.
