المستخلص: Islam has been the major factor in the Nigerian Arabic Literary Culture. Evidence abounds pointing to the rich Arabic Literary Scholarship of Nigerian Ulama before and after Nigerian independence. Consequently, almost all the Literary output of the Ulama was Islamically oriented. Arabic as a language has never been a goal in itself in Nigeria, past and present, but a means to another aim which is to understand Islamic religion. The poetical works of the Islamic scholars did not only reflect all Arabic poetical themes as known among the Arabs but also reflected their own environment and creativity. The major focus of this article is centered on general themes commonly used among Nigerian Muslim poets which include factors leading to versification, its stages, Divine love, eulogy, didactics, supplications and Sufism etc.
