| 520 | |b The writer tries to analyze the causes of decline of nations and through this analysis arrives at an understanding of the positive factors for rise and success in the life of a nation. The basic premises of his argument have been derived from those eternal laws of success and failure that are discernible from the Qur’ān and Sunnah coupled with their explications by the scholars of Islam. The main concern of the writer is the present predicament of the Muslim Umma and he means through this paper to contribute to the efforts of its revival in future. Among the causes of decline identified by him with reference to the guiding principles available in the Qur’ān and the Sunnah include: sectarian and other domestic divisions, unjust practices prevailing in socio-economic and political spheres, the fifth column in the Muslims' ranks, negligence of pursuing means of power and strength, excessive obsession with worldly matters and proliferation of practices prohibited by Islam. By the same token, the factors of success and victory include: unity, commitment, justice and fair play, mutual solidarity among Muslims, pursuit of the sources of strength, austerity, God-consciousness and perseverance, strength of faith, discipline including loyalty to the leader and last but not the least supplicating to Allah. | ||
