The paper discusses the importance of this branch of knowledge, and the high status of the investigation related to the Qur' n in generd and to the well-known frequent Qur' nic readings in particular. The frequent ten readings have always inspired interest among the scholars of Islam due to their bearing on issues of theology arising from the variant readings. These readings have been endorsed by the authentic sources of the Sunnah. A reflective view of these readings reveals their significant connotations for matters of belief. These readings of the Qur' n, being based on authentic sources of the tradition, are and should be accepted by the community for both recitational and interpretive purposes. This paper includes a clear statement showing the significance of this subject in Qur' nic studies. It proceeds to acquaint the readers with these readings and the level of authenticity of their sources in the tradition as assessed by the scholars. This statement is followed by a probe into the locations of their mutual difference in the Qur' n noting, at the same time, their impact on the issues of belief. |
