This paper highlights the Qur nic incentive to affirm and pursue cause- effect process of nature operative in this world, through the medium of parables and stories, by employing story as effective medium to bring home significant lessons in this respect. The Qur n underlines the vital role of human agency in achieving such objectives as are prescribed for man by Allah. Despite an obvious element of miracle in the Qur nic stories of the past especially in those relating to the Prophets and some other figures, the various actors have been projected in the Qur nic stories as agents freely pursuing the normal course of nature. The writer concludes, on the basis of numerous illustrations from this particular genre of the Qur n, that Divine pre-knowledge and pre¬destination of events does not preclude the limited, yet necessary role of human agency. |
