المستخلص: Im m Shu'bah is among those doctors of ad th who have reported a large number of traditions. He is considered a vital link in the chain of transmission established in the 'Ir q school of ad th. However, some scholars of ad th have pointed out his mistakes in a number of a ad th despite the endorsement of a large number of his reports by many scholars of ad th. In this paper, attempt has been made to clarify the issues in which Shu'bah and his views have been criticized by the later scholars of the field; the discussion covers the significance of this criticism, the impact of this criticism on resolving these issues, the limit and range of difference among the scholars regarding these issues. These issues pose some fundamental questions engaging the scholars writing in the field. According to the findings of this paper, there are only one hundred cases in which Im m Shu'bah has been criticized by other scholars. A critical analysis of the relevant topics indicates that Im m Shu'bah made mistakes only in thirty-one cases while in the rest critical comments by other scholars are merely based on certain errors of information available to them about him.
