This paper deals with one of the most intricate doctrinal issues that have engaged the human mind in the past and present. Existentialism in particular has been chosen for the diversity of its philosophical strands and because its conception of God includes the contentious hypotheses of many other schools of thought, especially the atheistic ones. The writer first outlines the idiomatic terms pertaining to the existentialist conception of God, such as the Fall and the Sublime, then presents the various existentialist concepts, whether they confirm or deny the existence of God. The writer also examines the reasons and the justifications for atheism among the most prominent existentialist philosophers, comments on them and posits a tacit critique in the very act of presenting the terminology and outlining these concepts. The conclusion contains the writer's view of the existentialist conception of God, along with a brief recommendation for other writers to tackle the more intellectually challenging, influential and contemporaneous propositions, commenting on and responding to them wherever they come from. |
