Good health is one of the greatest blessings of Allah (SWT) after faith. Therefore, Islam emphasizes the protection of health, which is among the aims of Shar‘ah. Qur’n forbids injurious foods and other such items like meat of pig, blood, dead meat and wine. Similarly, all types of illicit sexual practices are strictly prohibited. An important part of ad th material deals with the precautionary measures regarding health such as cleanliness and purity, selection of good and balanced diet and avoiding injurious food. Islam has also prescribed certain rules regarding eating, drinking, sleeping, awakening and manners of keeping body and habitat clean. In the sight of Islam, faith and virtuous life go side by side with clean, pure and healthy living. A number of a d th provide guidance about hygiene like washing hands before taking meal, starting meals in the name of Almighty All h (SWT), starting that portion of meal which is in front, and using right hand to take it, avoiding blowing, inhaling or exhaling in utensils. This guidance includes taking sufficient and balanced diet, avoiding excessive eating, wasting of food, taking meal in semi- lying or lying position. The observance of these rules and etiquettes lead to positive effects on health, hygiene and dietary habits. |
