In the economic model of the Sunnahy individual ownership of agricultural land has been permitted subject to certain conditions. This is unlike capitalist or socialist systems that either allow unlimited ownership or total control by the state. There is, however, a variety of opinion among Muslim scholars about it: An opinion permits to lease and cultivate the lands. Another opinion allows them to be cultivated, and prevents their leasing. Another opinion prevents their cultivation and leasing too. But it confines them to personal benefits. Findings of this paper: The agricultural system in Islam has spiritual and doctrinal dimensions, mentioned in the holy Qur’an and noble Sunnah. Islam inspires its followers to develop and use the agricultural lands - public or private - by cultivation and business transaction, leading to the development of the society in many ways. |
