المستخلص: The paper explains the meticulous treatment of hadith texts undertaken by the doctors of hadith. It cites several critical writings scattered in the works dealing with the hadith texts and causes of their critical assessment recognized by their authors. The writer points out the historical fact of Muslims’ being the first to develop the cannons of textual criticism. She concludes that repugnance to other established texts and singularity of a hadith text without supportive evidence has been the chief and frequent cause of this ciritical assessment. In this respect, the doctors of hadith proved themselves free from all elements of subjective like or dislike and thus established highly credible objective criteria for the evaluation of hadith texts.
