المستخلص: A confession in Christianity involves an affirmation by the sinner of his sins, in front of a competent priest. This confession according to most Christian sects is equivalent to repentance. Christians, like the followers of other religions, in general stress the principle of repentance. However, Catholics and Orthodox compel their followers to confess all the sins they committed before a priset. Moreover, Catholics grant forgiveness to the guilty in return for a consideration, while the Orthodox deny this. The Protestants go against the principle of confession except to God for they believe that forgiveness could only be from God, because the humans actually sin against Him. Therefore, they are at variance with the position of the two former sects. The paper cites scriptural and rational evidence to show the invalidity of the concept of confession as evolved in certain Christian sects
