المستخلص: In this paper, the writer throws light on Imam Ghazali's view of the institution of marriage and its objectives in the Shari'ah, as discussed in his magnum opus, al-Ihya’. After giving a brief overview of the life of Imam Ghazali, the writer explains the relevant ideas of this great Muslim Jurist Philosopher. He shows the amalgamation of the moral and rational principles in the great Imam's conception of marriage. Imam Ghazali duly stressed the norms governing the conduct of matrimonical relationship. At the same time, he did not lose sight of the practical side of this important componant of the social schame of Shari'ah. He outlined the practical measures laid down by the Shari'ah to achieve the benefits of married life and avoid the harms that threaten it.
