يهدف البحث إلى فهم الواقع المتدني للموروث العمراني في مدينة السماوة، ذلك الموروث الذي يعد الجزء الأصيل منها وهو المعبر عن قيم وأرث المدينة والمجتمعات التي قطنتها طيلة تاريخها منذ النشأة وحتى وقتنا الراهن. ووفقاً لذلك فقد تناول البحث مفردات مهمة فيما يخص وصف الواقع العمراني والسكاني للمنطقة التقليدية، وتحليل أسباب تدني الموروث العمراني، ووضع مجموعة من السياسات التي من شأنها إحياء الموروث العمراني والحفاظ عليه من التداعي بكافة أشكاله وصوره. وخلص البحث إلى مجموعة من الاستنتاجات كان من أهمها أن الموروث العمراني يتعرض للتداعي بشكل كبير ومستمر شكلياً وجوهرياً ولأسباب متعددة، وإن هذا التداعي يتباين في أشكاله ودرجاته بين منطقة وأخرى ضمن المنطقة التقليدية، إذ كانت أكثر تأثيراته في منطقة الشرقي القديم الثانية ثم منطقة الغربي القديم الثانية، وثالثاً الشرقي القديم الأولى وأخيراً منطقة الغربي القديم الأولى. واقتراح البحث ضرورة إيقاف غزو الوظيفة التجارية تجاه الوظيفة السكنية ضمن المنطقة التقليدية، وسن القوانين الخاصة بذلك، ونشر التوعية الفكرية بأهمية الموروث، وضرورة اعتماد سياسات الإحياء وإعادة التطوير والتجديد والترميم والتحسين والارتقاء للمنطقة التقليدية بهدف حمايتها من التداعي.

The proposed research need to stop the invasion of commercial position toward the residential function within the traditional area, and the enactment of this law, and the dissemination of intellectual awareness of the importance of heritage, and the need to adopt revival policies and redevelopment, renovation, restoration, improvement and upgrading of traditional for the region in order to protect it from collapse.
