يتناول موضوع البحث نشاط الإرسالية الأمريكية العربية في البحرين خلال المدة 1892-1939، وجاء اختيار عام 1892 بداية لموضوع البحث لكونه العام الذي افتتحت فيه الإرسالية فرعا لها في البحرين وبداية نشاطها، أما بالنسبة إلى توقف البحث في عام 1939 فيعود إلى اندلاع الحرب العالمية الثانية ومن ثم تأثيرها على نشاط الإرسالية ليس في البحرين فحسب بل في مطقة الخليج العربي عموما. يتطرق البحث في بدايته إلى موضوع تأسيس الإرسالية الأمريكية العربية وبيان أهدافها الأساسية، ثم يتناول كيفية افتتاح مركزا لهم في البحرين الذي تحول فيما بعد ليكون مقرا للإرسالية في منطقة الخليج العربي، وكذلك بيان نشاطها الديني الذي هو الهدف الأساس الذي كانت تسعى إلى تحقيقه الإرسالية ويوضح البحث نشاطها في المجال التعليمي وما هي الخطوات التي اتخذتها الإرسالية كتأسيس المدارس وبيع الكتب وإدخال الدروس الدينية التي تخص الدين المسيحي في التعليم، كما بين البحث كيفية الاهتمام بالجانب الصحي المتمثل بافتتاح المراكز والمستشفيات وجلب الأطباء وتقديم الخدمات الطبية لأهالي البحرين.
