إن الطبيعة بكل ما تحويه من العديد من مظاهر وظواهر وجماليات هي الملهم الأول، والأساسي في عملية الإبداع الفني. في الواقع إنها من أهم منابع الإبداع الفني حيث أنه تم تناولها والتعبير عنها بطرق شتى من قبل المختصين من الفنانين والمعماريين. فمنهم من قلدها أو جردها ومنهم من اختزلها أو استلهم مبادئها. وعليه. فقد قامت عملية التصميم البيئي والجمالي على الاستفادة من هذه الجماليات في حياتنا اليومية وذلك من خلال تصميمات بيئية تحمل الطابع الجمالي والوظيفي معا. والتصميم البيئي هو أحد مجالات التصميم المتكاملة التي تحافظ على البيئة، وعلى هذا النحو تم بناء العملية التصميمية من خلال دراسة علم من أهم العلوم الحيوية والتي ستكون مادة للاستلهام عند التشكيل والتصميم والإبداع في العملية التصميمية وهو علم التشكل (Morphology). وعلم التشكل (Morphology المورفولوجي) هو علم يهتم بالتكوين والتركيب البنائي الشكلي والوظيفي للكائنات الحية (حيوانات ونباتات) أو أحد أعضائها والتكوين الخلوي لها (أنواع الخلايا ومكوناتها وأشكالها وأنواع الأنسجة ومكوناتها وأشكالها) في هذه الكائنات الحية. ومن هنا نجد أن علم التشكل له أهمية واسعة في التصميم البيئي لأنه جزء من الطبيعة، ولذا ينبغي سرد ودراسة مجموعة من التصميمات البيئية في كل من مجالات الفن والعمارة وكيفية استفادة المصمم بشكل وتكوين وتركيب الكائنات الحية وكيفية توظيفها وإعادة صياغتها بما يتناسب مع البيئة المحيطة والغرض المصمم لأجله التصميم، حيث تحمل طابع الطبيعة الجمالي في التشكيل أو البناء أو اللون والجانب الوظيفي والاستفادة منهم في عملية التشكيل في التصميم البيئي. ويمكن القيام بالجانب التطبيقي في مجالات تصميمية مختلفة كالآتي:- تصميم المعلقات، تصميم الجداريات، التصميم الداخلي والأثاث والتصميم الخارجي والواجهات المعمارية وغيرها والتجميل البيئي والمعماري بمختلف أشكاله وتجميل الميادين والاستراحات والحدائق العامة وتصميم الزخارف التي تستخدم في شتى المجالات مثل تصميم السجاد والتحف والمجوهرات... إلى آخره من المنتجات والتصميمات البيئية وغيرها، ومن أفكار تصميمية قد توحيها إلينا الطبيعة المورفولوجية للكائنات الحية بكافة أشكالها في مختلف المجالات. فعملية التصميم والاستلهام من الطبيعة لابد وأن تكون متوافقة مع احتياجات الإنسان ورغباته ومعبرة عن طبيعته وانتمائه وثقافته فهي مرآه تعكس التغيرات الثقافية والاجتماعية والحضارية للمجتمع.
Nature, with the various aspects, phenomena, and aesthetics, is the primary and essential inspiration of the process of artistic creation. In fact, it is the most important source of artistic creation. It has been handled and expressed in different ways by specialists i.e. artists and architects. Some of them imitated it while others denuded, abbreviated or inspired its elements. Thus, the environmental and aesthetic designing process has been based on making use of such aesthetics in our daily life by means of making environmental design that have both aesthetic and functional roles. Environmental designing is one of the integrated designing fields that maintains the environment. There fore the designing process has been built through studying one of the most important biological sciences which will be a subject matter when forming, designing, and creating the designing process. The science is Morphology. Morphology deals with the formation, the material and the functional constructive structure of living organisms (animals and plants), or one of their organs, or their cellular structures i.e. types and forms of cells and types and forms of tissues of these organisms. So, Morphology is excessively important in environmental designing as it is part of Nature. Therefore, we should mention and study a group of environmental designs in both fields of art and architecture. We should, also show how the designer can benefit from the shape, the form, and the structure of the living organisms and how to make good use of them and re-present them in a way to harmonize with the surrounding environment and the purpose they are designed for. Thus, it conveys an aesthetic aspect of nature and a functional aspect in the formation process of the environmental design. In the formation process of the environmental designing applications could be carried out in a variety of designing fields e.g. potters. Murals, interior designs and furniture, exterior designs, architectural Facades, embellishment of squares and arenas, public parks, designing decorations for carpets, souvenirs, jewelleries...etc. The designing ideas that are inspired by morphological nature of living organisms in numerous forms are infinite. The designing process that is inspired by nature has to be consistent with Man's needs and desires and expresses his nature, loyalty and culture. It is the mirror that reflects the cultural, social, and developing changes of the society.
