المستخلص: Background: Breast cancer is the most frequent malignant disease worldwide. Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women and the second leading cause of death in women in Africa. In Sudan studies have been conducted to address breast cancer awareness are not well documented. Objectives: The purpose of the current study was therefore to evaluate Breast Cancer Awareness Programs and strategies to promote Breast cancer awareness, focusing on knowledge of breast cancer signs and symptoms, risk factors, and breast self-examination (BSE). Methodology: The design of this study was cross sectional survey. The sample size was chosen randomly from Ahfad University (100 students). Data were collected using face-to-face interviews. Results: The respondents were aged between 16 – 25 years old, most of them were single. 27 % of respondents having a family history of breast cancer, and 95% were aware about breast self exam (BSE) and 80% performed it regularly. Most of the respondents had a good understanding about risk factors (93%), symptoms (96%), and screening tests (82%). While the knowledge about treatments and stages were not well understood. There are few hospitals and organizations that are having a breast cancer awareness program and they are not covering large areas in Khartoum due to limited resources and these programs are funded by volunteers. Conclusion: The program of breast cancer awareness is well implemented in Ahfad University, the level of awareness of breast cancer in Female students were adequate. Public awareness interventions are needed in order to overcome an ever-increasing burden of this disease.
