المستخلص: The main issue of the study is trying to determine the most substantial social and economic determinants of the phenomenon of reoffending and to recognize the most important personal and familial characteristics of reoffenders, and the most reoccurring patterns among them, and that all is to try to come up with recommendations to increase the chances of the released to be integrated and accepted in society and live honorable lives rather than being rejected by society. The study is a descriptive analytic one. It depends on the qualitative analysis by using the methods of case study, and it depended on interviews as the main method of collecting data. The study is applied on 10 male reoffenders, currently confined criminals in the Highly Secured Prison in New Minia. The study discovered many results; one of the most important results is that reoffenders often have similar personal and familial characteristics. The most important of these characteristics is that most of them did not receive much education or are illiterate. Also they are young, they come from big families with little money, they do manual labor and live in the most crowded and squatter areas. The study also indicates that dealing in narcotics is the most common pattern amongst them, followed by cheque frauds, theft then compulsive robbery. The study shows that the most important social determinants of reoffending is the individual's feeling of being rejected by society regarding him as a social outcast, and his being punished once more of his crime by stigmatizing him forever as a criminal whose crime will be a stigma blocking all his chances of leading an honorable life. As for the economic determinants, the study shows that the most important one is having no opportunities for the reoffenders to get a dignified job and having neither governmental nor non governmental entities to help the released. In light of the discoveries of the study, the recommendation is to coordinate the efforts of responsible authorities such as the Ministry of the Interior , the Ministry of Social Solidarity to set a plan to study the inmates' situations to help them adapt to society.
