المستخلص: Liguists present one image of the linguist thought images, they do not stop within the formal limits of the language of Arabs, they take it to their responsibility to interpret and clarify the linguistic phenomena, and because scientists need approaches to aid them interpret, clarify, and convey what they want to the reader, they have resided to some terms that would help them achieve that, among these terms is the term “status”, which refers to the state, stature, and degree; hence, and based on these connotations, liguists use it in clarifying and interpreting linguistic issues. Status depends on two poles, one is acknowledged and the other is dependent on it. The term is used in linguistic books is to approximate the syntactic, morphological, and phonological issues in the minds of the learners or to refer to previous positions or to refer to stable positions in the reader’s mind; that is, clarifying one thing by referring to something else that share the same status. The definition of “Status”: It is one approaches of interpreting language via language based on two poles that have something in common or contrast, the aim from establishing this approach is to derive a pattern or to interpret, explain, illustrate, approximate the linguistic issues to the receivers’ minds, to identify linguistic phenomena, or to compare similar issues in linguistics. The study is devided into an introduction and four chapters: the introduction tackles the linguistic and terminological meaning of the term “status” and its synonyms, and the reasons which make most of the liguists use the term, a distinction between the term “status” and other famous linguistic phenomena like standardization and assimilation and the stages of the development of the term and its use are surveyed as well. The First Chapter tackles the use of the term “status” in referentiality. The Second Chapter deals with the function of “status” in the processes of grammatical representation and grammatical analysis. The Third Chapter tackles the use of “status” in reasoning. The Fourth Chapter deals with “status” in assimilation, standardization, and comparison. The study ends with a conclusion that sums up the findings.
