This article highlights the real motives that led the Portuguese State to intervene in the field of colonialism, the objectives it sought to achieve, the stages of Portuguese colonialism in Africa, as well as the methods used to control some African islands and their coasts. Portugal was also the first Crusader country to fight the coasts of sub-Saharan Africa for religious reasons, in alliance with St. John, who was living in Abyssinia. Portugal succeeded greatly in this mission because it has succeeded in colonizing some African countries, seizing commercial centers and preventing the development and spread of Islam in African countries in general and in its former colonies on the continent in particular: Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Angola, Mozambique, Sao Tome and Principe. Portuguese colonialism has had a great impact, for the most part negative, on the cultural, social, political, economic, religious, cultural and other levels. The negative impact on the religious side is confirmed by the fact that the number of Muslims in the Portuguese colonies is much lower than in other colonies.
