المستخلص: Imam al-Nawawi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in the introduction of the commentary of his forty Aḥādith: “I invoked Allah for guidance in collecting forty Hadith following the footsteps of great Imams. The scholars have agreed that it is permissible to work on a weak Hadith in the virtues of deeds. However, my reliance is not on this Hadith, but on the saying of the prophet (PBUH) in the authentic Aḥādith: “let the witness of you inform the absent”, and his saying: “May Allah brighten the face of the one who heard my saying and remembered it and delivered it as it is”. Moreover, some of the scholars have collected forty Aḥādith in the fundamentals of religion, and some in the branches, and some of them in the jihad, and some in asceticism, and some of them in the etiquettes, and some of them in speeches, and all these are good purposes. Therefore, this blessed collection, which is in our hands, has gained credit from the point of view of topic, which is the supplication of the Prophet (PBUH), and from the point of view of approach which is following the footsteps of Muḥaddithīn in collenting forty Aḥādith.
