يهدف هذا البحث إلى الكشف عن الأنساق المضمرة في رواية "تلك الأيام"، وهي عبارة عن سيرة ذاتية للكاتب، قد تكاثفت وتعددت فيها الأنساق وتصارعت لتكوين شخصية أبو العباس برحايل، معبرة عن نظام المجتمع الجزائري المتخبطة بين تاريخ المستعمر، المعبر عنه بالآخر الغريب والمناقض، وواقع ما بعد الاستقلال المحير والمشتت، الذي يبحث عن وجهة يبتغي منها القيام بدوره كبنية نسقية اجتماعية، لها تميزها ووظيفتها مقابل البنيات الأخرى، في ظل العتمة والصدامات يكون الكاتب عنصراً تائها لا يستطيع إنجاز وظيفته خارج النظام العام للمجتمع، تقوده علاقته بالأمكنة الريفية وانفصاله عنها للضرورة تجعله تائها كتوماً، قد تعددت الأنظمة طارحة إشكالية تحديد الهوية، والبحث عن طريقة لإثبات الذات ضمن بيئة من البيئات حتى لا تكون شخصية سلبية، بعدما حطم الاستعمار قوانين وقواعد هذا المجتمع، معتمداً نظرية التفرقة والهدم، ليصبح نسق الآخر غير مقتصر على الأجنبي بل متواجداً وبقوة داخل المجتمع الواحد كالعرقية والطبقية، واللهجات المتعددة والاختلاف اللغوي والديني، وفي خضم ذلك كله يبحث الكاتب عن الأنا، عن طريق توظيف التاريخ والسياسة والمؤسساتية في تفسير ما عتم من الواقع في اللاوعي الفردي والجماعي، وفق مرجعيات يمكن الإفصاح عنها أو إضمارها.
