المستخلص: The precise manner in which the Priesthood was organized known. Pharaoh himself was chief priest. The priests, whose name in Egyptian signifies Pure Ones, were divided into two large general classes consisting of Prophets and Ordinary priests. The temples were staffed with recognized cadres: Chief Prophet, Deputy Prophet, Prophet, Priest, Deputy Priest and so on. There were specialist priests of many kinds, including lector priests, orators and mortuary priests, priestesses were ranged in a hierarchy of their own, the duties of female priests being confined in the main to the provision of music and dancing on religious occasion, sacred concubines and sacred prostitutes existed at all times, particularly in conjunction with the cult of Min. Members of priesthood combined other activities with their religious functions. Since reading and writing were almost entirely a monopoly of the priest, who administered the schools and kept the libraries, it is not surprising that they supplied the majority of politicians, doctors, lawyers, undertakers and other professional men. There privileges were numbers, including exemption from manual labor and freedom from taxation. They also possessed the right asylum. Therefore, this research deals with the priesthood riches in ancient Egypt as well as some of the aspects of their positions, characteristic dress, salary, degrees and treasury during the ancient Egyptian periods.
