تناولت الدراسة منهج الإمام البربهاري في تقرير مسائل السنة والأثر والبدع من خلال كتابه شرح السنة، وجاء في تمهيد، ثم تعرض الباحث لبيان حياة الإمام البربهاري الشخصية والعلمية، بذكر اسمه، وكنيته، ونسبه، ومولده، ومذهبه، وعقيدته، والتعريف بكتابه شرح السنة ثم تحدث الباحث عن منهج الإمام البربهاري في السنة، والبدع، متناولة فيه تعريف وأقسام السنة والبدع، والآثار المترتبة على الوقوع في البدع، وأقوال الإمام البربهاري وأهل السنة والجماعة في الحث على إتباع السنة والإنكار على أهل الأهواء والبدع، وتجسدت مشكلة البحث في غيرة الإمام البربهاري على هذا الدين، والعقيدة الإسلامية جعله يتسلح بكل ما في وسعه للرد على أصحاب البدع، والأهواء، والتصدي لهم مما نتج عنه ذكره لبعض الأحاديث الواهية والضعيفة في استدلالاته على مسائل العقيدة، ولم ينبه على ما فيها من ضعف، أما المنهج الذي اتبعه الباحث فهو المنهج التاريخي، والاستقرائي، والتحليلي. وختم البحث بنتائج وتوصيات خلص لها الباحث ومن أهم ما توصل إليه الباحث؛ أن منهج الإمام البربهاري هو منهج السلف في تقرير مسائل العقيدة والرد على المخالفين، وكتابة موسوعة علمية كبيرة في العقيدة، يمتاز بغزارة المادة العلمية (العقدية)، ويتميز عن غيره من المصنفات بشدة تأكيده على لزوم السنة، وإتباعها، وتحذيره الشديد من البدع بعبارات بسيطة في شكل نصوص.
