هدفت الدراسة للتعريف على بشبكات المعلومات، والتعريف بالمكتبات الجامعية بصورة عامة ومكتبات جامعة الجزيرة على وجه الخصوص، ودراسة واقع المجموعات الإلكترونية بمكتبات جامعة الجزيرة، وعكس الدور الذي تلعبه شبكات المعلومات في توفير مصادر المعلومات الإلكترونية. اتبعت الدراسة المنهج الوصفي بشقيه (المسحي، دراسة الحالة) مع استخدام الأسلوب الإحصائي (SPSS) لتحليل البيانات. واستخدمت الملاحظة والاستبانة كأدوات لجمع المعلومات، يتكون مجتمع الدراسة من العاملين بمكتبات كليات جامعة الجزيرة، وتم اختيار العاملين الحاصلين على مؤهل جامعي وفوق الجامعي بلغ عددهم (55) عاملاً يمثلون عينة الدراسة. توصلت الدراسة للعديد من النتائج أهمها: المصادر الإلكترونية متوفرة بالمكتبة لحد ما ومتاحة عبر شبكة الانترنت للمستفيدين، الشبكة توفر المصادر الإلكترونية لبرامج التعليم عن بعد وتخدم برامج التعليم الالكتروني بالجامعة وتتيح المصادر الإلكترونية المسموعة والمرئية، شبكة المعلومات تساهم بشكل فعال في تنمية المجموعات الإلكترونية بالمكتبة. وترتقي بخدمات المعلومات بالمكتبة، وجود شبكات المعلومات بالمكتبات الجامعية يخلق نوعا من التكامل في مصادر المعلومات الورقية والإلكترونية كما أن عدم استخدامها يعود إلي شح الإمكانيات المادية والبشرية نوعاً ما. هذا وقد خرجت الدراسة بالعديد من التوصيات أهمها: على عمادة المكتبات بجامعة الجزيرة إنشاء شبكة معلومات تربط مكتبات جامعة الجزيرة ببعضها، تدريب العاملين بمكتبات جامعة الجزيرة على التعامل مع شبكات المعلومات وكيفية تقديم الخدمات الإلكترونية للمستفيد من خلال عقد الدورات التدريبية المستمرة لمواكبة كل ما هو جديد في مجال الشبكات، على عمادة المكتبات تنمية مجموعات المكتبة الإلكترونية من خلال توفير مصادر المعلومات الإلكترونية، بناء المحتوي الرقمي لمكتبات جامعة الجزيرة وإنشاء مستودع رقمي للمصادر الإلكترونية، أهمية الانضمام إلي شبكات المعلومات والمكتبات المحلية والإقليمية والدولية بغرض تقاسم الموارد وتبادل المصادر، الاشتراك بقواعد البيانات الدولية والإقليمية والمحلية والتي توفر مصادر المعلومات الإلكترونية وتعمل على تنمية مجموعات المكتبة.
The study aimed to introduce the networks information, and give a definition to the university libraries in general and the libraries of the University of the Gezira in particular, also to study the electronic collections in the libraries of the University of Gezira, to reflect the role that information networks plays in providing electronic information resources. The study follows descriptive approach through (Survey and Case study) with the use (SPSS) for the data analysis. The observation and questionnaire were used as tools for data collection. The study community contains the staff members of the faculties of University of Gezira, (55) workers of graduated and post-graduated were chosen as a sample of the study. The study reached a number of results, the most important of which are: electronic resources of audio and video which are available at the library to some extent and are available via the internet to the beneficiaries, the network provides electronic resources for distance learning programs and serves e learning programs at the university, the information network contributes effectively to the development of electronic collections in the library. And upgrade library information services. The existence of information networks in university libraries creates some kind of integration in the sources of paper and electronic information, and it is not used in the libraries of the University of Gezira for the lack of material and human potential. The study recommended that the Deanship of Libraries at University of Gezira to establish information network linking the libraries of the University with each other, holding ongoing training courses to the staff of the libraries of the University of Gezira to deal with information networks and to be able to provide electronic services to the beneficiary and to keep up with everything new in networking, developing electronic library groups through the provision of electronic information resources, building the digital content of the University's libraries and creating a digital repository for electronic resources, join local, regional and international information networks and libraries for the purpose of sharing materials and sharing resources, participate in international, regional and local databases, which provide sources of electronic information and work on the development of library collections.
