إن أهمية الدراسات السكانية لا تحدد في كونها مصدر جميع الظواهر الاجتماعية حسب، بل وكذلك لأثارها البعيدة المدى في النواحي السياسية والاقتصادية لذلك يجب معرفة اتجاه نمو أو تناقص السكان، فعلى عدد السكان وكثافتهم يتوقف حجم القوى العاملة، وعلى هذا يتوقف حجم الإنتاج ونوعيته وحجم السوق ودراسة السكان على أسس علمية صحيحة تضمن بتنفيذها حياة أفضل لكل فرد من سكانها. الهدف من هذه الدراسة هو تسليط الضوء لبيان أعداد السكان وتوزيعهم الجغرافي وبيان كثافتهم السكانية وذلك نتيجة للتباين المكاني في مدينة خانقين. وقد تضمن البحث أعداد السكان خلال السنوات التي سبقت سنة ٢٠٠٣ وذلك من اجل معرفة المقارنة وأسباب الزيادة والنقصان في أعداد سكان المدينة. وتتميز مدينة خانقين بأكثر من ميزة وصفة جعلتها منطقة متميزة وذات أهمية خاصة بالنسبة لباقي الوحدات الإدارية في محافظة ديالى. من حيث موقعها الجغرافي المجاور للحدود العراقية - الإيرانية من جهة ومن منطقتين المنطقة الجبلية وشبه الجبلية، بالإضافة إلى أهميتها التجارية على الطريق الرئيسي الذي يربط العراق بإيران، ثم أهميته المعدنية باعتباره منطقة نفطية. وتناول البحث الوصف التأريخي لمدينة خانقين مع بيان الحقائق الجغرافية لمنطقة الدراسة. بالإضافة إلى دراسة مواردها المائية ومصادرها. مع بيان العوامل المؤثرة على توزيع السكان في المدينة، وتحديد المراحل الزمنية لأعداد سكان مدينة خانقين لغاية سنة ٢٠١٠. بالإضافة إلى التوزيع السكاني وأعدادهم وكثافتهم على أساس المحلات السكنية مع ذكر التركيب النوعي لسكان مدينة خانقين، مع بيان نتائج الدراسة. وبما إن السكان هو المحور الرئيسي الذي تدور حوله شتى المجالات، وانطلاقا من هذا المفهوم فأن هذا البحث يلقي الضوء على عدد سكان مدينة خانقين من خلال المتغيرات الديموغرافية التي شهدها.
Khanaqin city population in years 2003-2010 study of population geography The importance of population study can't be limited being only the source of all social aspects, but also for their strategical affects in political and economical aspects. So the direction of growth and diminishing of population should be known. So far the labor forces depend on the number of population and its density. And also the production size, its quality, market and aim study depend on the correct scientific based which by carrying it out ensure a better life for every member of population. The aim of this study is to focus the light show the number of population and their geographical distribution and showing their density due to different position inkhanaqin city. The search included the number of population through the years before 2003 to knowor make a comparison and for knowing the causes of increasing and diminishing of number of population city. Khanaqin city has a lot of characteristics which made it an important area and has a special importance comparing with the other administrative units in Diyala province. From its geographical and strategical position being close to Iraq-Iran border from one side and looking over two mountainous and plains in addition to that the traditional importance of the main road which connects Iraq with Iran. Then the importance of having metal sources likes oil. The search also talks about the historical description of Khanaqin city and it shows the geographical facts for the study area. Besides the study of its water resources and its source and showing the influenced factors on distribution of the population in the city, and assigning the time stages forth number of population in Khanaqin city up to 2010 Besides the population distribution, their numbers and density according to living quarters and mentioning the typical structure for population in Khanaqin city. Showing the results of the study. Finally and since the population is the main axe which the other aspects goes around, and starting from this point, this search focus the light on the number of Khanaqin city population due to changes which had witnessed.
