لعل نظرة واحدة للعالم العربي اليوم، تكشف أن من ضحايا الظروف الراهنة في المنطقة، هو تراجع الاعتدال السياسي، وبروز كل أشكال التطرف والتشدد، بحيث أصبح المعتدل في موقع الضعف والاهتراء، وأصبح التشدد هو عنوان اللحظة الراهنة على كل المستويات، بحيث يصبح الخطاب المعتدل غير مقنع لأحد، وكل طرف بصرف النظر عن طبيعته وجوهره، يبرز جوانب التشدد لديه، وبنظرة واحدة وعميقة في المشهد السياسي العراقي، نشعر أن الجميع يزداد اشتعالاً وتشدداً، ولعل من مآزق المشهد السياسي العراقي اليوم، هو بروز كل نزعات التشدد واضمحلال كل أشكال وعقليات الاعتدال السياسي لدى الجميع، ومن يبحث عن الشعبية والتأييد الاجتماعي لأفكاره ومشروعاته، يجد أن لا طريق أمامه للحصول على كل هذا، إلا التشدد والبعد عن الاعتدال السياسي، فالتشدد لا يبني واقعاً للقوة النوعية، وإنما يضيع القوة القائمة، دون أن يتمكن من خلق قوة بديلة، بينما الاعتدال يستند إلى الممارسة التي تستند على المعطيات والحقائق، فالإنسان يتحرك وفق معطياته وحقائق واقعه، لذلك هو يتحرك وفق إمكاناته وقراءته الدقيقة لواقعة وواقع مجتمعه، وعليه فإن ركيزة الاعتدال السياسي الواقعي، هو منهج الدولة المدنية التي تتخذ من الفرد مكون أساسي لها بعيد عن أي تصنيف أو ولاء ضيق.
