تهتم الدراسات الجغرافية بدراسة الظواهر الطبيعية على سطح الكرة الأرضية وتعمل على كشف التباينات المكانية وتوزيع الظواهر وتحديد معالمها وتحليلها وقياسها مكانياً وزمانياً، كما أنها تعطي صورة للتغير المستمر لأية ظاهرة نتيجة تفاعل فيما بينها. أن لدراسة الخصائص الجغرافية الطبيعية أهمية كبيرة فهي حلقة وصل بين العلوم، كما تعد احدى الركائز الأساسية التي تستند عليها العلوم بمختلف مجالاتها، وإن تحديد الموقع الجغرافي لأي منطقة آثرا في تحديد الخصائص المناخية فضلا عن معرفة أنواع الترب وبالتالي معرفة طبيعة الغطاء النباتي والخصائص المكانية الأخرى. كما أن لدراسة الخصائص الطبيعية آثراً في تحديد المشاريع التنموية للمدن سواء أكانت (سكنية، صحية، نقل، تعليمية، تجارة، صناعية) وغيرها. تناولت الكثير من الدراسات الخصائص الطبيعية للمدن، كما هو حال الدراسات الجغرافية التي تتناولها بشكل مفصل ودقيق لمعرفة التباينات المكانية والزمانية وتحديد أثارها ووضع الحلول المناسبة لها، ونظراً لاتساع الحاجه لمثل هذه الدراسات تناول البحث دراسة الخصائص الطبيعية لمدينة الديوانية لأهميتها المكانية بسبب تحتلها من موقع جغرافي متميز بالنسبة للوحدات الإدارية فهي تمثل مركزاً إداريا لمحافظة القادسية، كما أنها تحتل موقعا مثالياً يتمثل بربط محافظات جنوب العراق ومحافظات الفرات الأوسط والعاصمة بغداد، أي أنها تمثل حلقة وصل فيما بينها لذا يكتسب أهمية البحث موضوعا هاماً.

They also study the natural properties in determining the impact of development projects for the cities of whether (housing, health, transport, educational, commercial, industrial) and others. Many of the studies dealt with the natural characteristics of cities, as is the case with the geographical studies that are dealt with in a detailed and accurate way to know the spatial and temporal differences and determine their effects and develop appropriate solutions, In view of the wide need for such studies, the study examined the natural characteristics of the city of Diwaniyah because of its spatial importance because it occupies a distinct geographical location for the administrative units. It is an administrative center for Qadisiyah Governorate, It also occupies an ideal location is linked to the provinces of southern Iraq and the provinces of the Middle Euphrates and Baghdad, That is, they represent a link between them so the importance of research becomes an important topic.
