يسهم النشاط السياحي في الوقت الحاضر في تنمية المناطق التي تتواجد بها مقومات الجذب السياحي بشكل كبير نظرا للمردودات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية التي تحققها السياحة عامة والسياحة الدينية خاصة من خلال استقطابها إعداد كبيرة من الزائرين، كما هو الحال لمدينة النجف التي تعد قبلة مهمة يتجه نحوها العديد من المسلمين وبصورة مستديمة دون انقطاع، إلا أن هذه الميزة السياحية رافقتها أهمية المقومات الطبيعية ودورها في زيادة الإيرادات وما تسهم به من تنمية سياحية لاسيما وأن منطقة الدراسة ذات مقومات طبيعية مهما كمنخفض بحر النجف، وأن عملية استثمارها بالشكل الصحيح ووفق خطط تنموية مناسبة مستفادة من ميزة السياحة الدينية ستعود بالمنفعة الكبيرة، لذا هدفت هذه الدراسة لإبراز أهمية التجاور المكاني للمقومات الدينية والطبيعية وفق الإطار التكاملي في تحقيق التنمية السياحية لمنطقة الدراسة، وذلك لعدم مراعاة أهمية المقومات الطبيعية وإمكانية تفعليها سياحيا، وما لها دور تنموي في حال استثمارها وفق خطط سياحية مناسبة، لذا جاء الاهتمام بدراسة تلك المقومات والتخطيط للاستفادة منها سياحيا انطلاقا من أهمية السياحة الدينية التي تتمتع بها مدينة النجف ذات البعد الديني وذلك لتحقيق التنوع السياحي.
