المستخلص: This study aimed to investigate the attitudes of the public towards the policeman in the Saudi society, and whether these attitudes differ depending on the variables of gender and qualification. The study sample consisted of (678) persons who were chosen randomly from the population of the city in Riyadh. The researcher designed a tool that consisted of (36) items which was distributed over (4) areas. The validity and reliability of the tool were confirmed. The results of the study showed that the attitudes of the public towards the policeman was high on the study tool as a whole, The area of "the attitudes towards the development of police performance," ranked first with a very high degree, followed by the area of "the policemen do their duties and provide services to citizens and residents," in the second place with a high degree. The area of "the public feeling towards the police" came in the third rank with a moderate degree, while the area of "the police treatment of the public," came in the last rank with a moderate degree. Results related to the gender variable showed that there are differences in the attitudes of the public towards the policeman due to the gender variable (males, females) in favor of females. As for the variable educational level, results indicated differences in the attitudes of the study sample towards the policeman due to the education level (secondary, university, postgraduate) in favor of the educational level of postgraduate studies. The researcher presented a number of recommendations including the need to work on the development of training programs for the public to make them aware of their rights and duties and the provision of services related to their needs and providing them easily and conveniently through the development of police services. In addition, the researcher recommended providing the policeman with the life skills, the art of dealing with the public and ways of communication to reach them.

هدفت هذه الدراسة التعرف إلى اتجاهات الجمهور نحو رجل الشرطة في المجتمع السعودي، وهل تختلف هذه الاتجاهات باختلاف متغيرات الجنس والمؤهل العلمي لدى أفراد عينة الدراسة. وتكونت عينة الدراسة من (678) تم اختيارهم بالطريقة العشوائية من سكان مدينة الرياض، وقام الباحث ببناء أداة تكونت من (36) فقرة موزعة على (4) محاور، تم التأكد من صدقها وثباتها. أظهرت نتائج الدراسة أن اتجاهات الجمهور نحو رجل الشرطة جاءت بدرجة كبيرة، على الأداة ككل، وأن محور "الاتجاهات نحو تطوير الأداء الشرطي" أحتل المرتبة الأولى بدرجة كبيرة جداً، تلاه محور "قيام رجال الشرطة بالواجبات وتقديم الخدمات للمواطنين والمقيمين" في المرتبة الثانية بدرجة كبيرة. وجاء محور "شعور الجمهور تجاه رجل الشرطة "بالمرتبة الثالثة بدرجة متوسطة في حين أحتل محور "تعامل رجال الشرطة مع الجمهور" بالمرتبة الأخيرة بدرجة متوسطة من الاتجاه. كما أظهرت نتائج الدراسة إلى وجود اختلاف في اتجاه الجمهور نحو رجل الشرطة السعودي يعزي لمتغير الجنس (ذكور، إناث) ولصالح الإناث، كما أشارت نتائج الدراسة إلى وجود اختلاف في اتجاهات أفراد عينة الدراسة نحو رجل الشرطة السعودية تبعاً لمتغير المستوى التعليمي (ثانوي، جامعي، دراسات عليا) ولصالح مستوى الدراسات العليا. وأوصي الباحث بعدد من التوصيات أهمها ضرورة العمل في وضع برامج تدريبية للجمهور لتوعيتهم بحقوقهم وواجباتهم، وتوفير الخدمات المتعلقة باحتياجاتهم وتقديمها لهم بكل يسر وسهولة من خلال تطوير الخدمات الشرطية، إضافة إلى إكساب رجل الشرطة المهارات الحياتية وفن التعامل مع الجمهور وأساليب الاتصال والتوصل معهم.
