تستقصي الورقة عموما تحديد الدور الريادي الذي يمكن أن يلعبه نشاط السياحة في تدعيم صلات وروابط الاقتصاد العراقي في ظل المقيدات والمعطيات التي فرضت على واقع هذا الاقتصاد في المرحلة الراهنة وانعكاساتها المستقبلية، ناهيك عن إمكانية ممارسة هذا النشاط لدور فعال في استدامة Sustainability عملية التنمية، بما ينطوي عليه من خصوصية ذاتية وموضوعية تقتضي الحفاظ على بيئة وديمومة وحيوية الاقتصاد. ولأجله فقد عمدنا إلى معالجة فكرية لملاحقة آلية إنضاح متطلبات ما يدعى بالتنمية المستدامة Sustainable Development في الفقرة الأولى من هذه الورقة والكشف عن واقع السياحة والتحديات التي يواجهها في الفقرة الثانية منها، ومن ثم كيفية ممارسة هذا النشاط لمساهمته القيادية في تحقيق التنمية المستدامة في ظل الظروف الاقتصادية والمالية والاجتماعية التي يشهدها البلد وما يتمخض عنها مستقبلا. وتنتهي هذه الورقة بمجموعة من الاستنتاجات والتوصيات التي تؤمن الهدف من إعدادها.
