Like other writers of the twentieth century, Conrad is constantly thinking about the theme of corruption and anarchism which is resulting from his society. Joseph Conrad emerges as a liberal author who is aware of the social problems which face the ordinary man. He is much concerned with the destiny of the individual who belongs to the lower classes. He opposes all types of disorder especially revolutions. Conrad's acute knowledge of the dark anarchist's life comes from self-experience. He sees revolutionaries as anarchists. Therefore, he is the best to tell about the anarchist's life as a son of a former anarchist in the Polish Revolution. Although Conrad professes a neutral stance, his Polish background, childhood, and family politics have influenced his perception of the nation. Conrad presents both sides of the conflict leaving for the readers to evaluate the incidents. He is antirevolutionary as well as anti-imperialist. In Under Western Eyes, Conrad portrays individuals as representatives of mankind dealing with dictators, autocrats and even with anarchists. It is the story of Razumov whose future was controlled and reshaped by the bad deeds of the oppressed and oppressors. In Under Western Eyes, Conrad displays both sides of the Russian community. He felt no sympathy with either the Russian or the revolutionaries. Through the narrator English eyes, we are given a view of the human dilemmas which result from oppression and violence. Conrad redeems the revolutionaries for spreading the chaos in their society. This paper aims at presenting Conrad's hatred towards oppression and disorder. Conrad opposes any kind of disorder that distorts the peace of the society and his attitude springs out of his belief that it is the corruption of individuals that is responsible for this chaos and not a certain group or party.
