The eastern border, due to its strategic importance, has formed a zone of “attractions” between internal and external leaderships. The result of these tensions was the birth of what was known as the “Eastern Base” as a result of the de facto policy imposed by the local leaders of the region on the Revolutionary Command (Coordination and Implementation Committee). Although it was considered at the time as a kind of “consensus” between these parties, the Coordination and Implementation Committee, despite pretending to accept this “consensus,” continued to view the “Eastern Base” as an organization outside the laws of the revolution and its leadership. It is even rebellious and threatening to the unity of the revolution. Despite the significant role played by the Base in the movement of arms and ammunition convoys, the Coordination and Implementation Committee kept waiting for the right time to resolve it at the first opportunity given to it.
