The Post-graduation Education has taken a considerable attention ,particularly after the Yemeni-Reunion in 1990.This attention has been represented in establishing six governmental universities, one of them is Thamar University ,beside the universities of Sana'a and Aden which were established in the decade of the seventies . The reflected result was the expansion of their cities. The Universities are one of the most influential phenomena on their surroundings and cities as part of their urbanistic expansion. The present study aims at investigating such urbanistic expansion , its size and kind from the time of the university establishment upto today . It also aims at exploring other factors that formulate the general features of the urbanistic structure and had its impact on the size of the public services and their kinds. Perhaps ,one of the prominent factors was the internal and external immigration to the cities which caused social and economic changes. The importance of the study lies in being one of the first which sheds light on the impact of the university on its urbanistic surrounding with an aim of exploring the nature of the urbanistic expansion and the type of the planned practices and , ultimately , the control of the urbanistic development of the city. It also explores the influence of the university on its urbanistic surrounding in general and Dhamar city in particular . It presents suggestions for the future of the city and its university which may enhance the constant urbanistic growth projects urbanistically and humanistically.
حظي التعليم العالي في اليمن باهتمام كبير، خصوصا بعد توحيد شطري الوطن في عام 1990 م، وقد تمثل ذلك في إنشاء ست جامعات حكومية، إحداها جامعة ذمار، فض عن جامعتي صنعاء وعدن اللتين تأسستا في عقد السبعينيات من القرن العشرين، الأمر الذي انعكس على توسع المدن التي تقع فيها الجامعات ومنها جامعة ذمار، الظواهر تأثيرا في محيطها والمدن التي نشأت فيها وتمتد ضمن نسيجها العمراني الحضري، الأمر الذي تسعى الدراسة إلى التحقق من حجمه ونوعه منذ نشأت الجامعة إلى الوقت الحاضر، ومعرفة دور العوامل الأخرى التي في مجملها شكلت الملامح العامة للنسيج العمراني وانعكست بطبيعة الحال على حجم الخدمات العامة وتنوعها، ولعل من أبرزها الهجرة الداخلية والخارجية الوافدة إليها، وما صاحب ذلك من تحولات اجتماعية واقتصادية شهدتها المدينة بعد تأسيس الجامعة. تنبع أهمية الدراسة كونها من أوائل الدراسات التي تسلط الضوء على أثر الجامعة في مجالها الحضري بهدف الكشف عن طبيعة التوسع العمراني ونوع الممارسات التخطيطية وصولا إلى التحكم والسيطرة على التطور العمراني للمدينة، وتأثير الجامعة في مجالها الحضري بشكل عام ومدينة ذمار بشكل خاص، وتقديم مقترحات لمستقبل المدينة وجامعتها، مما يسهم في وحضاريا وبشريا مشروعات التنمية الحضرية المستدامة عمرانيا وبشريا وحضارياً.
