Most modern Arab linguists have dealt with the phenomenon of stress/emphasis in classical Arabic and defined its rules based on knowledge concerning it that has come from other languages. They relied upon the criteria of intensity and elevation criteria when determining the stress/emphasis, whilst most of them neglected the time-length criterion, which we see as a central criterion in respect to determining the stress/emphasis, just as it represents the adopted standard in respect to other languages. As such, the stress/emphasis described in Arabic cannot be proven in a laboratory or perceptively, because of the weak auditory effect it has, which is in contrast to the reliance upon the time-length factor. This is what was verified through a detailed study made evident by this article.
