Corruption around the world has become one of the major concerns of international bodies engaged in the fight against this phenomenon. Corruption, and especially in public transactions - that is, abuse of authority in exchange for a benefit - and all the crimes that are close to it are a source of serious harm. Corruption causes considerable economic damage, undermines the integrity and effective functioning of public administration, undermines citizens' trust in state organs, undermines the rule of law and democracy, distorts the rules fair economic competition and inhibits economic development. Corruption can also be an instrument of organized crime in order to influence and infiltrate political, administrative and economic structures. Corruption is particularly dangerous when it becomes a systematic or transnational practice. Fighting corruption in international public transactions with effective measures is therefore a necessary and indispensable obligation.
