اهتمت الدراسة بخامة الأخشاب في هيئتها الشجرية على اعتبار أنها من الخامات الغير ملتفت لأهميتها بالقدر الكافي في مجال أشغال الخشب، في الوقت الذي تذخر به هذه الخامة بتراث كبير وعريق في بعض الحضارات، ونظرا لعدم ارتباط هذه الخامة بالتراث المصري بشكل ملحوظ.. فإن الدراسات المتعلقة بتلك الخامة قد انحصرت كثير ولم تأخذ حقها بالبحث والتجريب، ومن خلال ذلك وجد الباحث أهمية قصوى لاستخلاص أسلوب كل حضارة من تلك الحضارات في التعامل مع تلك الخامة ورصد مظاهر تطورها في الحاضر، لذلك هدفت الدراسة إلى توصيف الأساليب الفنية التي عالجت الأخشاب على هيئتها الشجرية من خلال الحضارات الصينية والافريقية والهنود الحمر من جانب، ثم تصنيف الأساليب الفنية التي تعاملت بها تلك الحضارات مع الأخشاب في هيئتها الشجرية من جانب آخر. وقد كشفت الدراسة إلى أن الحضارة الصينية اهتمت كثيرا بالهيئات الطبيعية لتلك الأخشاب بحيث أنها كانت تمثل الموضوع الرئيسي في العمل ومحاولة إبرازها واستثمارها بأكثر من طريقة وأسلوب.. كما كشفت الدراسة أن الحضارة الافريقية اهتمت أكثر بموضوعها وفكرها وحاولت المزج بينه وبين هيئة تلك الأخشاب الطبيعية، فأخرجت منهجا يمزج بين القيمتين. كما أن حضارة الهنود الحمر ركزت بالأساس على موضوعها وفكرها واستخدمت تلك الأخشاب كخامة فقط في أغلب الظروف وهي بذلك لم تلتفت كثيرا لقيمة الهيئات الطبيعية لتلك الأخشاب.
The study is concerned with wood as a material in its tree form considering the fact that it is one of the materials whose worth is not sufficiently appreciated in the field of woodwork despite its abounding with a great deeply-rooted legacy in some civilizations. Although this material is not visibly associated with the Egyptian heritage, studies of it were very limited and it was not thoroughly researched and experimented on. Therefore, the researcher found it extremely important to identify the way other civilizations dealt with this material and detect its development at present. Therefore, this study aims to describe the artistic methods that processed wood in its tree form in the Chinese, African, and Red Indian civilizations on the one hand. On the other hand, the study categorizes the artistic methods that these civilizations employed in dealing with wood in its tree form. The study reveals that the Chinese civilization took a great interest in the natural form of wood in a way that made it the main theme in the art works. It made wood prominent and invested it in a lot of ways and methods. The study also revealed that the African civilization cared more for its themes and ideas, and it tried to blend wood with its natural form, thus producing an approach that combines both values. Moreover, the Red Indian civilization focused mainly on its themes and ideas, and mostly used wood as a material only, thus not paying much attention to the natural form of wood.
