يتسع مفهوم "المواطنة" في سياق الحركة الاجتماعية والسياسية إلى نسج علاقات متميزة مع الوطن، تتولد من خلال المشاركة الإيجابية في الحقوق والواجبات والقيم والعادات، والتي تشكل مفهوم المواطنة والانتماء إلى الوطن. وقد استطاع الفن الروائي المعاصر أن يحتوى كل المفاهيم التي تخص الرقي الإنساني والتقدم الحضاري. وفي سياق التجربة الروائية المعاصرة استطاع الكاتب المصري القبطي: ادوارد الخراط أن يقدم صورة متميزة لمفهوم الوطن والمواطنة وهي: صورة ترتبط به وبتكويناته الشخصية من كولاجه الروائي "إسكندريتي" 1994م والذي تميز بخصوصية في النص وكفاءة للكاتب؛ لأنه اعتمد على الرسم بالصورة، أو الصورة التشكيلية المتلونة، والمتجددة في كل نص من نصوص الكولاج الروائي، فوقف أمام وطنه مستقطرا عواطفه الجياشة، والممتلئة عشقا لكل مفرداته، لذلك ارتبط الكولاج الروائي شكلا ومضمونا بسياقات الوطن وتاريخه، وحقوق الفرد في المشاركة، في الأحداث، وكذلك التمتع بكل ما يقدمه الوطن من حقوق الرفاهية الاجتماعية، التي ينعم فيها في ظل المشاركة، فحمل النص الكولاجي هذه الرؤية الشاملة لمفهوم الوطن والمواطنة، من خلاله تجسيدهما في السرد الرومانسي، والسرد بلغة الواقع، والارتباط الحميمي بالمكان والبحر، والإسكندرية فظهر الوصف التعبيري واللغة المتأنقة، والمصورة للوطن. وأبرزت الوقفة الوصفية، كأهم الظواهر الفنية، رؤية تفصيلية للأماكن. كذلك تلونت اللغة بمفرداتها وتعبيراتها بكل هذه الألوان، المتجددة في كل صور الكولاج الروائي. ساعدت هذه التقنيات الفنية في الكشف عن البعد الدلالي والثقافي لمفهوم المواطنة عند ادوارد الخراط
