Given the importance of age and gender structure in population studies in general and population projections in particular, the study aimed to assess the accuracy of the age and gender data of the Saudi population and their consistency with the usual demographic patterns worldwide and in some selected countries. This is based on population census data of (1974, 1992, 2004 and 2010), as well as demographic survey data of 1999, 2007 and 2016. Some demographic methods have been used that contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the study, such as the indicator of the ratio of general gender and according to the age groups. The study found that the qualitative composition of the Saudi population by age is exposed to clear imbalances in gender ratios, which reached their peak in the advanced age groups (65 and above), which showed an unreasonable increase in the numbers of males versus females in those categories, in general, and in the administrative regions, in particular. It is also noted that the gender ratios of the Saudi population by age are not consistent with the usual patterns in various developed or developing countries of the world. Accordingly, the study recommends that the age and gender data for Saudis in the Kingdom should be corrected before they are used for any population estimates or any other purposes. More serious efforts should be made to identify the cause of the imbalance, thereby improving the accuracy of age and gender data through studies aimed at methods of collecting and delivering age and gender data. In addition to that, it is necessary to strive to raise the level of statistical awareness about the importance of population variables and their interrelationships with development indicators.
