|a إذا كانت المصادر التاريخية والتنقيب عن الآثار أقدر من الشعر على توثيق مظاهر العمارة عند العرب الجاهليين، فإن هذا الشعر يبرز في جلاء صورة هذا البناء، بدليل ورود عدد غير قليل من مصطلحات العمارة عند طائفة من شعرائه، الذين وصفوا عمائر بأعيانها، رأوها وربما ارتابوا باحاتها، وهم الأكثر ترحالا إلى المدن وقصور الملوك والأشراف، وأديرة النصارى، وحانات الخمارين. ويبدو أن الشاعر العربي وقف من العمائر الضخمة موقفين: موقف "الواقعي" الذي لم تذهله القصور، فنسبها إلى أصحابها، وآمن بأن بنائها بشر مثله، وموقف العاجز، المتوهم العجز في الناس العاديين، فنسب بناء تلك العمائر إلى الأنبياء والجن، أو نسبها إلى الأولين على غير تعيين. وأيا كانت الأسباب التي قدمها الشعراء سبيلا لتفسير فخامة المشيدات المعمارية، فإن هذا الشعر ولاريب وثيقة تاريخية وصفية لجانب من جوانب الإبداع لأولئك الأوائل الذين معمارية فنية أدت وظيفة اجتماعية ودينية واقتصادية صناعية.
