يعد العراق مركزا مهما جدا للإخبار، لما يتمتع به من خصائص وسمات جعلته محورا مهما لتنا ولقضاياه من قبل الصحف العربية والعالمية، ومن هذه السمات والخصائص هو موقعه الاستراتيجي وموارده الاقتصادية والبشرية الكبيرة، وكذلك الظروف التي مر بها والتي جعلت منه الساحة الساخنة والواجهة الأمامية للحرب ضد الإرهاب العالمي. لقد تناولت الصحف العربية قضايا العراق باهتمام كبير وعلى جميع صفحاتها عبر الأخبار والتقارير والتحقيقات وغيرها من الفنون الصحفية الأخرى، واختار الباحث صحيفة الشرق الأوسط كأنموذجا للصحافة العربية لتحليل مضامين ما تناولته من موضوعات وقضايا تخص العراق كونها صحيفة يومية تتميز بانتشارها الواسع على الساحتين العربية والدولية، وكذلك استمرار إصدارها دوريا وبدون انقطاع. يتكون البحث من مقدمة وثلاث مباحث وخاتمة: تناول المبحث الأول الإطار المنهجي للبحث، فيما تطرق المبحث الثاني للإطار النظري وفيه تعريف لمفهوم وسمات وخصائص الصحافة العربية، وكذلك المعايير التي تتعامل بها تلك الصحف. أما المبحث الثالث فكان فيه الجانب العلمي وهو تحليل وتفسير للقضايا والموضوعات التي تناولتها الصحافة العربية متمثلة بصحيفة الشرق الأوسط. وتوصل الباحث إلى عدد من النتائج أهمها، أن صحيفة الشرق الأوسط كانت انتقائية في تناولها قضايا العراق، وكانت تصب اهتمامها على الجانب الأمني، وتجاهلت الجوانب العلمية والاجتماعية وتعاملت مع قضايا العراق حسب وجهة نظر القائمين عليها.
Iraq is an important news Centre because of the characteristics and features that made it an important center to be dealt with by the Arab and International newspapers. These features include its strategic location, its great economic and human resources, as well as the conditions that passed through it which made it the hot spot and front-end of the fight against global terrorism. Arab newspapers have dealt with Iraqi issues with great interests and on all its news pages. The researcher chooses Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper as a model for the Arab press to analyze the contents of the topics and issues related to Iraq because it is a daily newspaper characterized by its wide spread on the Arab and International arenas and also continues to be issued without interruption. The research consists of an introduction, chapters and a conclusion. The first chapter deals with methodological framework of the research. The second chapter studies the conceptual framework including definition and features of Arab press as well as the criteria that these newspapers deal with. The third chapter discusses the practical aspect of the research. It is an analysis and interpretation of the issues and topics dealt with by the Arab press represented in Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper. The researcher reaches a number of results: the most important is that Al-Sharq Al-Awsat is selective in addressing the issues of Iraq and is interested in the security aspect while ignoring the scientific and social aspects. Also, it deals with Iraq as a case according to the point of view of its owners.
