المستخلص: This research comprises an introduction, two topics, and a conclusion. The introduction: The introduction highlights the importance of the subject matter of the research paper and comprises the research plan. The first chapter (first topic) comprises: -The definition of jahl (ignorance), its divisions and its impact on competence. The lexical meaning of jahl is opposite its scholarly meaning. According to Islamic legal theorists, the meaning of jahl is the absence of knowledge. Jahl: This is divided into: (i) -Jahl baseet (simple ignorance)—total lack of knowledge about a particular matter. (ii) - Jahl murakab (complex ignorance)-judging incorrectly with certainty. Ahilyyah (eligibility): Ahliyyah means the legal validity to acquire rights and duties as well as to perform an action in a manner that is consistent with the Shari'ah. Ahliyyah is divided into: (i) - Ahliyyat al-wujub (eligibility for obligation)—the capacity of a human being to have rights and duties. This is further divided into ahliyyat wujub naqisa (partial eligibility for obligation) and ahliyyat wujub kamila (full eligibility for obligation). (ii) - Ahliyyat al-ada' (eligibility for performance) -its basis in man is intellectual discrimination. Ahliyyat al-ada' is divided into ahliyyat ada' qasira (partial eligibility for performance) and ahliyyat ada' kamila (full eligibility for performance). Jahl with its two categories (simple and complex) is compatible with ahliyyat al-wujub and ahliyyat al-ada'. It is not incongruous with ahliyyat al-wujub because its basis is the mere fact of being alive and as for the fact that jahl is not incongruous with ahliyyat al-ada', this is because its basis is found in intellectual discrimination. Jahl has no effect on these elements; therefore, it is not inconsistent with either kind of ahliyyah. The second chapter (second issue) comprises: The second chapter deals with the "udhr bil jahl" (ignorance as an excuse) and its impact on rulings. The paper defines "udhr" as the grounds that nullify blame for an offense or shortcoming. According to this definition, jahl
