المستخلص: The African countries in general, and sub-Saharan countries in particular, gained increasing importance due to their potential role in the global energy sector, as about 30% of new discoveries of oil and natural gas in the world have been made in sub-Saharan countries during the period of 2013-2018. Eastern African countries, began formulating new legislations for the development of their hydrocarbon industries in an attempt to attract foreign investments. The study includes eight sections; recent economic development, with emphasis on GDP and population during the period of 1980- 2016; development of oil and natural gas sector through following up the developments in reserves and exploration activities, production, and refining industry; energy consumption; oil trade during the period 2000-2016; future expectations of energy production and consumption up to 2040; final consumption of energy by economic sectors; future development of oil and natural gas sector; and the implications of future development in oil and natural gas sector in African countries on world energy markets in general, and on OAPEC’s member countries in particular.
